September 28, 2022 Weekly Update
Last Sunday we reflected on what it means to be an Everyday Christian. Jesus invites his followers to “come and see,” and discover a deeper, more fulfilling live. If we want the church to grow and more people become a part of God’s beloved community, we need to help offer that same invitation to our neighbors, friends, and yes, even strangers.
The first step for us is to turn on our radar. Radar helps ships, boats, and planes know what is happening around them. In the same way, we have to ask the Spirit to help us turn on our radar. Jesus had his radar on when John and others spotted him on the beach. It enabled him to ask a question – “What are you looking for? And it helped him extend an invitation – “Come and see” – that led to strangers that eventually led to a deeper relationship.
If we want to build friendships with non-Christians, or lapsed Christians, we need to turn on our radar, and ask ourselves – what do I have in common with this person? How might I start a conversation with them? What affinities and commonalities do we share? How can I be helpful to them – without an agenda, without being pushy, but just trying to build a genuine connection and friendship that the Spirit can work through over time.
This Sunday is part 2 of “Being an Everyday Christian”. We will reflect on what it means to move from acquaintance to authentic relationship. Join us in person or online!
Blessings,
Pastor Jared
