August 3, 2022 Weekly Update
One of our community partners – the Center for Restorative Youth Justice (CRYJ) – has a couple opportunities for us to get involved during the month of August. Our Missions team met with Catherine Gunderson (CRYJ director) a few weeks ago and learned about their work with students, young people, and families in the valley. CRYJ seeks to create opportunities for reflection, connection, & empowerment for teens, victims, and families in our local schools, institutions, and community. Their approach touches the hearts of all involved. and seeks restoration rather than simple punitive punishment.
Here’s how to get involved:
Record your voice! CRYJ is recording audio of voices from around the community answering the questions How do you want this community to see you?” and “What makes a community feel safe?”
Stop by their office at 110 E. Idaho St in Kalispell (near Flathead Industries Center) Monday-Thursday between 1pm and 5pm and take a few minutes to step up to the tiny microphone. OR call in and record your answers! Leave a voicemail at 406-219-5899.
Help paint a mural! CRYJ is hosting a couple of painting parties for a community mural. With recordings of these voices, they have captured the sound waves for those answers and invite the community to help give life and color to these shapes. This mural will be proudly displayed on CRYJ’s building. The painting parties are Aug 16 & 18 from 12p-6pm.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jared
