July 6, 2022 Weekly Update
Last Sunday we reflected on the moment in the Gospel of Luke when Jesus sent out 72 disciples to towns and villages to spread the good news of the Kingdom of God (Luke 10). Jesus encouraged his followers to practice receiving the hospitality of others in order to break down barriers between Jews and non-Jews, Jews and Samaritans, and others. This small yet radical act of connection enabled God’s love to strike at the heart of evil and bring healing to people and communities. Amazing!
I spotted a quote this week that reminded me of this scripture. This quote comes from Fr. Richard Rohr’s daily mediation. Here, he lifts up the teaching of Hasidic Judaism and the work of Martin Buber. The quote is:
“It is a greater thing if the streets of a person’s native town are as bright as the paths of heaven. For it is here, where we stand, that we should try to make shine the light of the hidden divine life.”
May you find ways to cultivate and shine the light that lives in you upon our neighbors!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jared
