Sept 29, 2021 Weekly Update
For several weeks I’ve passed this community of sunflowers just a few blocks from the church. They always make me smile. Some are straight and tall. Others are a bit droopy. Some have had better days. But they are TOGETHER, and they seem to be a source of strength and joy for one another, and all who witness them.
The sight of the sunflowers reminds me of my sermon on prayer from last Sunday. Here are a few words that will help us all remember to stand TOGETHER in prayer as God’s beloved people:
“When we pray for others as the Body of Christ, we help them experience wholeness by helping them experience connection to other members of God’s family, and ultimately God. And we experience that connection, too. Prayer – for ourselves and for others – is what help us cultivate and discover wholeness is the Body of Christ. It’s a reminder that we are not alone because we experience the gracious, compassionate, and merciful love of God in and through each other.”
So, when suffering, conflict, and turmoil seem to abound, remember God’s invitation to be people of prayer. Not only for ourselves, but for one another. Because when we connect with one another through prayer – prayer for forgiveness, conflict, sickness, or pain – we experience the wholeness of God’s love that is our salvation.
Blessings
