April 24, 2024 Weekly Update
Happy Wednesday!
Yesterday our United Methodist General Conference kicked off in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the images above you can see part of our delegation (including CFUMC’s former pastor Rev. Dawn Skerritt – go Dawn!). You can also see our Bishop Karen Oliveto participating in an anointing during opening worship.
General Conference lasts about 2 weeks, and includes worship celebrations, deliberation of legislation in committees and plenary, presentations, and time for networking and collaboration. The bulk of the work this week is taken up with 14 Legislative Committee groups working through the 1099 pieces of legislation! It’s a lot to sift through, but the 800 or so lay and clergy delegates arrived prepared. And good news – the much hyped Regionalization legislation to create more equity in our worldwide denomination passed through committee and will be debated in the large group gathering next week!
Please pray for the all the delegates and their work regarding the future of our denomination. If you’d like to learn more, or watch the livestream (the worship services are usually very vibrant and creative!) click this link: https://www.resourceumc.org/en/churchwide/general-conference-2020
Easter Blessings,
Pastor Jared
