April 17, 2024 Weekly Update
Happy Wednesday!
Next week clergy and lay delegates from the worldwide UMC will gather in Charlotte, NC for our UMC’s General Conference. The administrative and ministry gathering happens every four years, but this will be the first meeting since the conference was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic. The conference is from April 23 to May 3.
At General Conference, these delegates gather to consider revisions to church law and the official ritual of the church, adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy, and economic issues, and elect officers for a number of churchwide positions. The General Conference also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs for the next four years.
Your former pastor, Rev. Dawn Skerritt, is a clergy delegate attending this conference. Mountain Sky is sending other clergy and lay people to represent our Annual Conference. Over the next few weeks, I will do my best to relay updates and information about General Conference. We will pray for the delegates and the conference each Sunday, but I invite you to pray personally for the delegates and the sacred business before them.
