October 12, 2022 Weekly Update
For a couple of weeks, I’ve kept reminding myself to buy Halloween candy. Apparently, there were a few news articles recently that stated Halloween candy might become scarce this year because of supply disruptions, supply chains, and other economic challenges. Isn’t that the story of everything this year? And then when I finally did buy candy for our trick-or-treaters, I had a little sticker shock! Times are a little (or a lot!) challenging for many of us, and many folks in our community. What can we do to ground ourselves in God’s love and care, and live our lives as good stewards of all God’s resources given to us?
On Sunday, we will begin a worship emphasis called Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. Over a period of five weeks, we will look at some of the financial challenges facing us as a nation and examine our own spending, saving, and giving habits. In addition to exploring biblical principles of financial management, we will learn ways to assess our financial situation and reflect on what will allow us to experience the true joy that comes through simplicity and generosity.
Everyone will receive a free devotional book in worship this weekend to read at home, or you can join one of two small group opportunities listed in this email.
At the end of the emphasis, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of giving for the coming year. We will consecrate these commitments on Sunday, Nov 13 in worship.
I look forward to seeing you – in person or online – this Sunday!
Blessings,
Pastor Jared
