November 6, 2024 Weekly Update
Yesterday in order to avoid checking too much election news, I called my childhood best friend to wish him a happy birthday. He’s a pastor, too, of two UCC churches in northwest Ohio. As we chatted about our churches, our lives, and the world, I was reminded of a simple observation during times like this. Most of us are either sucked in and can’t look away – from our phones, tablets, or 24/7 news and media, or we try to hide and keep our heads down, avoiding what feels like grief, pain, or hardship.
But isn’t there a 3rd way? A healthier way? A way that honors our faith walk with Christ?
This Sunday, our Town Hall Potluck after worship is an opportunity for you to be reminded that no matter the election outcome, the ministry we do in our community makes a difference. Elections come and go, but God’s church is called to live out our values and impact our neighbors to help God’s kingdom unfold in every heart and every neighborhood.
After church on Sunday, let’s gather in the Fellowship Hall for lunch. Our Leadership Board will briefly review the ministry of our church over the last year. You’ll hear all the ways your gifts supported our ministry and our faithful presence in Columbia Falls. We will present information for plans coming up next year. It’s nothing dramatic or earth shattering – it’s hopeful and wonderful, and we want you to know so that we can work together to continue being a vital church for generations to come! Bring a dish and stay after worship for lunch!
Please don’t forget to check out the Generous Future display on the back wall of the sanctuary for envelopes marked $30, $50, and $75. If every envelope is filled, our endowment will reach $10,000 by the end of 2024! Each envelope contains a dark chocolate sweet as a “thank you” for supporting the next generation of our church!
Please return your donations with your envelope by mid-December. You can give directly to the endowment online through www.columbiafallsumc.org/give.
Blessings,
Pastor Jared
