March 27, 2024 Weekly Update
Happy Wednesday!
Last Sunday we wrapped up our worship series, “Remember: God’s Covenants and the Cross.” Whether you listened to one sermon or all of them, I hope you grasped the big idea: God loves us, remembers us, and continually pursues a relationship with us, to the point of becoming one of us so that our hearts would know the steadfast and faithful love of our creator.
Now we are in holy week, and we are moving through the final days before Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion. Our study of God’s faithful covenants with humanity reminded me of the words of a hymn we will sing at our Good Friday service. The hymn is “What Wondrous Love is This” and the lyrics are as follows:
In her book, Rev. Susan Robb writes, “We can never fully comprehend God’s immeasurable love for us. But we can, during this Lenten season, intentionally remember all of the ways that God has intentionally reached out in covenantal love to us through Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David – through the prophetic words of Jeremiah, and through the sacrificial love of Christ, who fulfills all of the covenants, exemplified in his life, death, and resurrection. And we know how God invites us to respond to that immeasurable, covenantal love. Pass it on. Live in the here and now with love inscribed on your heart.” (p. 116)
As we move closer to Easter morning, through the betrayal, pain, and darkness of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, I pray you will take a few moments and remember God’s immeasurable love for you and our world.
Holy Week Blessings,
Pastor Jared
