March 13, 2024 Weekly Update
Happy Wednesday!
The sun was shining this morning, and the forecast calls for 50 and 60 degree temperatures over the next week. Spring is almost here – March 19th is the official day. Maybe you’ve begun to hear and see more bird, or see more of your lawn now that the snow is melting quickly.
I always find myself remembering during this time of year. Remembering how cold it was just weeks ago. Remembering that a really warm spring might spell trouble for rivers in the summer. Trying to remember last spring and the subtle differences between this year and last.
During our reflections on the covenants God makes with God’s people in the Hebrew Bible, I hope you’ve noticed that God is always inviting the people to remember. God wants Abraham to remember how God saved him from those who wanted to harm him. God reminds Moses that God is with him has he heads to confront Pharaoh. And last Sunday, God reminded David that God plucked him from the pasture to make him a prince, and will use him to build a dynasty that will be part of God’s redemption of the world. Remembering is powerful. When God’s people remember God’s steadfast love and faithfulness, they are empowered to obey God and step forward with faith and confidence.
If God were speaking to you as God spoke to Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, what things do you think God would ask you to remember? What would help you remember? Jot a note and stick that on your fridge or Bible or mirror. As we move toward the end of Lent, may that reminder help you embrace the fullness of God’s love for you this season.
Lenten Blessings,
Pastor Jared
