February 9, 2022 Weekly Update
Last Sunday we began a worship series entitled, “Not-So-Random Acts of Kindness.” We are lifting up ideas to help celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week and focusing on scriptures that invite us to be intentional about our kindness and compassion to our neighbors and our community.
We handed out little cards with ideas on how to spread love and kindness, and attached $5 to each card. You all accepted the challenge and took $160 with you, and many others grabbed extra cards to use throughout the week! If you missed worship last week, we’ve got more cards in the office, and we’ll have them on Sunday morning again! Remember, we want to hear how you spread love and kindness when we gather again for worship on February 20!
Some of you might be skeptical about this idea – I get it! I’m skeptical, too! But this is a grace-filled experiment to help our neighbors know we care and appreciate them.
Someone from our congregation shared a heartwarming and life changing story about kindness that was on CBS news last week. You can watch the video on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKwRrtjWf1E
As a young man, someone RANDOMLY gave Broadway star Claybourne Elder $200 to go see a broadway show the next night. He did, and his story inspired him to be who he is today. And now he’s giving tickets away to his shows, and people have given him almost $10,000 to help his efforts! Amazing! Hear it in his own words by watching the video!
It’s a great reminder that kindness and generosity touch lives when we are willing to be God’s agents of hope and love.
Blessings,
Pastor Jared
